Perth’s hot autumn weather could exceed summer maximum temperatures

Autumn is upon us, but Perth could have a hotter day on Tuesday than it has had all summer.

The city is expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius on the day most people will be returning to work from the long weekend.

But if the temperature inches even higher, autumn will officially have a hotter day than in the peak of summer.

Perth’s hottest day of the season just gone was 38C on January 14.

Cooler days and nights resulted in the mildest summer for 25 years, with a mean maximum temperature of 30.2C.

The lack of a single day over 40C was unusual for a city which normally experiences three to four in one season when high pressure systems linger in the Great Australian Bight.
