Venomous snake spotted at popular Perth beach

It was a sight I would’ve expected to see out in the hills, not down on the sand at my local beach. A snake I filmed chowing down on its lunch, which consisted of a large serving of lizard, on the sand at North Cottesloe beach on Monday.

My not-so-vast knowledge of West Australian reptiles allowed me to identify the species as ‘probably a snake’, but I’ve since learned it was a dugite, which are highly venomous but not uncommon in Perth and around the coast.
